China's Zhejiang Xingxing suspended operation at MTO unit

According to market sources, Zhejiang Xingxing New Energy Technology has shut its methanol-to-olefins (MTO) plant today (3 March 2016) for an unstated duration. The company did not disclose the reason behind the shutdown.

Located at Zhejiang, China, the MTO plant has a production capacity of 690,000 ton/year which is divided into 300,000 tons/year of ethylene and 390,000 tons/year of propylene. Its derivative 300,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) unit was constructed adjacent and consume the ethylene output from the MTO unit, while all propylene output are for commercial sales, according to market sources. The plant was brought on stream a year ago and would requires 1.8m tonnes/year of methanol to run at full capacity.
