Fire broke out at ExxonMobil’s plant in Baytown, Texas

According to media reports, a major explosion and fire have occurred at ExxonMobil’s chemical plant in Baytown, Texas that injured at least four. It is confirmed that part of the company’s gasoline production has been affected, and the initial investigation pointed the cause of the fire to a leak at a bypass line in a hydrotreater unit.

The company is assessing the extent of the damage to the plant. However, most of the chemical production lines have been shut at the moment.

The complex houses a 557,000 barrels per day refinery. Downstream units include three ethylene crackers with a combined capacity of nearly 3.8 million tons/year and a PP plant with a nameplate output of 800,000 tons/year, in addition to various other chemicals.
