China’s Shenhua XinJiang Coal-Based New Materials Project has delayed the startup of the new MTO and polyolefin units for at least 2 months due to serious issues on the MTO unit besides catalyst leakage, according to a source closed to the company.

Located at Urumqi, China, the company has a 450,000 ton/year coal-based PP unit and a 270,000 ton/year coal-based PE unit. The plant is designed to produce 1.8 million tons/year methanol. The startup schedule of the MTO unit is expected to delay until end of September to beginning of October, following by the productions of PP and PE.
