The latest data from the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed unexpected growth in the country’s manufacturing activities in the month of February 2022 despite the weeklong Lunar New Year holiday.
The official manufacturing Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) stood at 50.2 points, up from 50.1 in January.
The data also underlined a significant growth in the new order index, which rose to 51.5 compared to 48.5 in the previous month, marking the first expansionary since August last year. According to industry sources, manufacturers from the pharmaceutical, special equipment and auto industries have all reported stronger customer demand in February.
Construction activities also recovered in February, rising to 57.6 points from 55.4 in the previous month.
