China's official PMI dropped to three-year low in Jan 2016

Chinese National Bureau of Statistics releases a report on the country’s purchasing managers index for Jan on Monday at 49.4 points, which is the lowest level in three years. A reading above 50 indicates growth while a reading below 50 indicates deterioration.

The government’s effort in reducing excess industrial capacity and cleaning up unprofitable companies that survive based on bank loan and government subsidies is putting the manufacturing sector into a more challenging position.

The non-manufacturing sector is still showing resilience and creating employment.
