Local PP and PE offers in Indonesia firmed up at a slower pace

Although a key domestic producer in Indonesia continues to lift spot PP and PE offers to reflect the persistently supply tightness, the pace of price increment has somewhat slowed as a result of the rapid deterioration in purchasing interest.

Sources said that manufacturers across the PP and PE sectors are withdrawing from the market after failing to increase finished goods selling prices. An HDPE bag maker told CommoPlast, “Our customers are willing to place new PO if we maintain the old price. At the moment, we prefer to utilize the on-hand stocks and would only procure more raw materials if our customers accept the hikes.”

Players believed that without support from the demand side, it is challenging for sellers to continue lifting PP and PE prices regardless of the state of the supply conditions. The current upswing might be hitting its peak.
