Official data: China’s factory activities unexpectedly weakened in October.

New export orders sub-index fell for the eighth consecutive month to 46.8 in October from 47.8 in September.

Latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed Chinese manufacturing activities unexpectedly contracted in October, which industry experts blamed on the weak external demand that led to an adjustment in supply. The weeklong Golden Week holiday at the beginning of October also contributed to the decline.

The official purchasing managers' index (PMI) fell to 49.5 in October from 50.2 in September.

Non-manufacturing PMI also fell 1.1 points from the previous month to 50.6 in October, underlining a slowdown in activities in the service and construction sectors. The ongoing property market crisis keeps the construction sector struggling.

A sub-index for new orders fell to 49.5 from 50.5 a month earlier. New export orders sub-index fell for the eighth consecutive month to 46.8 in October from 47.8 in September.
