In the latest report, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said the US commercial crude oil stocks fell another 4.3 million barrels in the week ending 8 December 2023 on lower net import and steady refinery utilization rates.
At 440.8 million barrels, US crude oil inventories are about 2% below the five-year average for this time of year.
On the other hand, the total motor gasoline inventories increased by 0.4 million barrels, while distillate fuel inventories increased by 1.5 million barrels.
Propane/propylene inventories decreased by 1.0 million barrels from last week, standing 18% above the five-year average for this time of year. Total commercial petroleum inventories decreased by 10.0 million barrels last week
Refineries in the country operated at 90.2% of their operable capacity throughout the week, slightly reduced from 90.5% the week before.
The US produced 13.1 million barrels of crude oil per day while the number of rig counts dropped for the first time in five weeks, to 623 rigs.
