Sinopec Jilin Petrochemical was forced to declare an emergency shutdown at its ethylene cracker in Julin province, China during the early hours of 4 June 2024 following a technical glitch at a feedstock pump.
The cracker has an annual capacity of 700,000 tons of ethylene.
According to market sources, downstream units including a 300,000 tons/year HDPE plant and a 280,000 tons/year LLDPE plant were also taken offline due to the feed supply disruption.
The shutdown is not expected to have any major impact on the market as the producer is expected to restart the plant within a couple of days.
