SP Chemicals (Taixing) Co Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Singapore-based SP Chemicals Pte Ltd, is set to commence operations at its newly constructed ethylene-based PVC plant in Jiangsu, China, by the end of 2024, according to industry sources.
Initiated in 2022, the new plant integrates a comprehensive production chain with a 400,000 tons/year VCM facility and a 500,000 tons/year ethylene-based PVC unit. These facilities will operate alongside SP Chemicals’ existing production infrastructure, which includes capacities of 750,000 tons/year of caustic soda, 500,000 tons/year of VCM, and 320,000 tons/year of styrene monomer (SM).
The forthcoming launch has garnered significant attention from industry stakeholders, who are closely tracking its progress amid challenging market conditions. “Given the current market strain, this new capacity could exert considerable pressure on sentiment, especially with increasing hurdles in exporting to India,” noted a local trader.
Currently, SP Chemicals supplies VCM to neighboring PVC producers in Jiangsu, including Taizhou Liancheng Petrochemical Co Ltd, which operates a 600,000 tons/year ethylene-based PVC plant.
