Emergency shutdown at China's Shenhua XinJiang PP plant

Market sources reported that Shenhua XinJiang Coal-based New Materials Project has unexpectedly shut its coal-based PP plant today due to issues on its production plant as well as railway transportation issues. The restart schedule could not be ascertained.

Located at Urumqi, China, the company has a 450,000 ton/year coal-based PP unit and a 270,000 ton/year coal-based PE (LDPE) unit. The plant is designed to produce 1.8 million tons/year methanol. A source closed to the company informed that they are planning to shut their LDPE unit in the near term as well and LDPE plant has been facing serious leakage problem whereby current plan for the shutdown duration will be about 10 days. However, due to the bad weather in Xinjiang area recently after 3 rounds of snow, it will be much challenging for the plants to restart if the restart schedule are being delay further.
