Key takeaways

Shenhua’s morning auction registered full buyouts in PP block copolymer, LLDPE film, and HDPE film. However, sales of homo-PP yarn remained lackluster. It should be noted that the three total buyouts involved relatively small volumes.

On the Dalian Commodity Exchange, PP and LLDPE futures edged higher within a narrow range, offering modest support to Shenhua’s auction results.

Homo-PP yarn continued to face subdued demand, with deals concluded at CNY40–100/ton below Tuesday’s levels, highlighting persistent weakness in this grade. A local trader observed, “We are already midway through the month, but market confidence remains fragile. Buyers are not rushing into additional purchases, and we do not expect any short-term surge in demand.”

Market participants noted that PP demand could weaken further in the days ahead. Restocking typically occurs in the latter half of September ahead of the National Day holiday, but many buyers appear well-supplied and may defer replenishment until after the holiday. Historically, post-holiday periods have seen significant pressure on homo-PP prices, a trend that may repeat this year.
