Shenhua’s latest auction drew firmer interest on Wednesday, particularly led by higher deal volumes for homo-PP yarn as buyers responded to slightly lower offer levels. The uptick in activity came as PP and LLDPE futures on the Dalian Commodity Exchange extended their decline during the morning session, with PP futures slipping below last week’s range to hit their lowest point since 2020.

Traders said improved buying sentiment was partly driven by auction prices that were about CNY20/ton below Tuesday’s levels. Even so, broader spot demand remained subdued. “We are not seeing strong need-based purchasing this morning, even when we are open to negotiation,” a local seller said.

Purchases continued to centring on small, near-term requirements, and deal values for homo-PP yarn were still CNY10–20/ton below the previous day. Participants said this underscored the market’s persistent softness. With futures showing little sign of stabilising, most expect downward pressure to continue in the short term.
