PTT Global Chemical (GC) has become the first Thai plastic resin manufacturer to secure official Halal certification in Indonesia, establishing a critical first-mover advantage within Southeast Asia's most rigorously regulated consumer market.
Following comprehensive plant and logistics audits in mid-July, Indonesian authorities certified 137 GC products across its HDPE, LLDPE, LDPE, polystyrene, and hexene monomer ranges under the InnoPlus, PlastMate, and DIAREX portfolios.
The certification structurally alters regional trade dynamics by insulating GC’s market share from uncertified spot market competition. Operating via its distributor PT GCM Marketing Solutions Indonesia (GCMI), the Thai major currently commands approximately 10% of Indonesia’s total polyethylene (PE) demand and 20% of its imported PE volume.
By delivering verified Halal compliance across the upstream supply chain, GC guarantees operational continuity for domestic packaging and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) converters, who face strict national mandates requiring Halal-certified substrates to validate their final consumer goods.
Crucially, the accreditation (Certificate No. ID31410078824010726) was achieved using GC’s original baseline formulations, requiring zero operational adjustments or chemical substitutions. This seamless compliance pivot solidifies GC's supply channels, forcing uncertified regional and deep-sea rivals to either rapidly overhaul their additive sourcing or face systematic exclusion from high-volume Indonesian manufacturing tenders.
