According to market sources, Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) has started trial production at its new PE and PP plants. The petrochemical complex was commissioned in 2007 and initially was scheduled to come online during 2012, however the project was delayed.
Based in Assam, Northeast India, the plant uses both gas and naphtha as feed and is designed to produce 220,000 ton/year of HDPE/LLDPE at a swing production line and a 60,000 ton/year of PP unit. Commercial output from the plant is expected to be available in the market in the near term and GAIL is responsible for the marketing of the products.
BPCL is a joint venture between Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) (70%), Oil India (OIL) (10%), Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) (10%) and Government of Assam (10%).
