India's OPaL to bring new cracker and polyolefin units to live

According to market sources, ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPaL) is aiming to bring its newly developed dual-feed steam cracker on-stream by early June 2016. Based in Dahej Special Economic Zone, Gujarat, India, the cracker is designed to produce 1.1 million ton/year of ethylene and 400,000 ton/year of propylene.

Meanwhile, the company has completed construction at the 340,000 ton/year polypropylene (PP) unit and hopes to start commercial operation as soon as it can obtain propylene (c3) monomer from spot market, which is expected to be 1-2 weeks time.

The polyethylene (PE) plant is scheduled to come online end of June 2016, soon after the start up of the cracker. The plant with total nameplate capacity of 1.06 million ton/year of PE contains two HDPE/LLDPE swing units each with 360,000 ton/year capacity and a standalone HDPE unit with 340,000 ton/year capacity.
