Indonesia's Pertamina stopped offering for PP



Indonesian players informed that state-owned firm PT Pertamina has temporary suspended all offering for polypropylene (PP) to local buyers since late Dec 2015 and will only resume trading activities in the third week of Jan 2016. A trader commented, “We are not very certain about the reason behind this move but the supplier promised us that they would resume offering by next week.”

PT Pertamina owns a polypropylene (PP) plant with annual capacity of about 50,000 tons/year. The company has newly commissioned its 150,000 tons/year RFCC cracker in Cilacap, Central Java in Oct 2015, which boosted total propylene (C3) capacity of the company to 578,000 tons/year.

Indonesia’s dependency on import for feedstock is expected to reduce in 2016 with the start up of Pertamina’s new RFCC cracker and Chandra Asri expansion of its naphtha cracker. Current propylene (C3) and polypropylene (PP) production in Indonesia is shown in the following table:
