Seperti laporan sebelumnya, Kementrian Ekologi dan Lingkungan China memutuskan untuk "melarang import" 16 tipe sampah termasuk sampah hardware, sampah kapal, bagian dari sisa mobil, smelting slag dan sampah plastik industrial grade per tanggal 31 Desember 2018.

Pemerintah China saat ini sudah mengkontrol masuknya sampah pastik ke dalam negeri sejak 2017. Di 2018 hanya sekitar 76.000 ton sampah plastik dalam hs code 3915 yang diimport ke dalam negeri ini dibandingkan 10 juta ton di tahun sebelumnya.

Dalam industri petrochemical, rata-rata sampah plastik berasal dari customer source yang sudah dilarang sejak 2017 dan saat ini adanya penambahan sampah plastik industrial yang akan dilarang, artinya tidak ada sampah plastik yang akan memasuki China mulai 1 Januari 2019.
