The official manufacturing purchasing managers index as released by the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics showed a drop from the previous month to 49.4. A measure below 50.0 shows a contraction.
Economist expected the weakening condition in the manufacturing sector to persist into 2019 as trade war bites. This might encourage the government to introduce new stimulus to spur the growth.
On a more positive note, the non-manufacturing PMI rose to 53.8 in December from 53.4 in November.
