Two Iranian PE plants shutdown following ethylene pipeline explosion

Two major polyethylene (PE) plants in Iran have been shut since earlier this week following an ethylene pipeline explosion that disrupts feedstock supply, according to market sources.

Ilam Petrochemical located in Ilam province has an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of HDPE and Kordestan Petrochemical situated in Sanandaj has an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of LDPE. Both plants are expected to remain offline until the end of April.

In earlier reports, the Financial Tribune informed of a rupture at the West Ethylene Gas Pipeline in western Kermanshah Province, Iran on Sunday, 7 April 2019. This is the world’s longest ethylene pipeline, spreading 2648 km from the port city of Asalouyeh to West Azarbaijan Province and supplying ethylene feedstock to a number of petrochemical plants along the way.
