It is reported that an explosion has occurred at Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project in Pengerang, Malaysia early hours today. Until this moment, it is unsure if there is any injuries or casualties due to the incident.
Initial investigation show that the explosion and fire was caused by a gas leak at the facility.
There is no report on the impact on the downstream units.
Earlier this year, the project changed name to Pengerang Refining And Petrochemical (PRefChem). The complex houses a 3 millions tons/year naphtha cracker, 900,000 tons/year PP unit, 400,000 tons/year HDPE unit.
