China’s economy maintained steady growth rate in Q1

The latest data showed that China’s economy grew at 6.4 per cent in the first three months of 2019, beating expectations of a further slow down as a result of unresolved trade tension with the USA.

Though the growth is below 2018’s full-year rate of 6.6 per cent, analysts believed this is an early sign of a recovery.

The growth is supported by strong industrial production, which surged 8.5 per cent in March compared to last year while retail sales rose 8.7 per cent. Reuters reported that there was strong demand for home appliances, furniture and building materials, reflecting a resurgence in China’s residential property market.
