The Federal Reserve on Wednesday, 31 July 2019 decided to cut the key interest rate by a quarter-point (0.25%) to 2-2.25%. This is the first rate cut since 2018, according to media reports.
The Fed emphasised that the cut is merely a mid-cycle adjustment and that it is not “the beginning of a long series of rate cuts”.
