According to media reports, Pengerang Refining And Petrochemical (PRefChem) has exported at least two naphtha cargoes to overseas market over the past weeks as its refinery returns to operation following a shutdown in April due to a fire.
The producer has not responded to the reports, however, sources expected the company to continue to export naphtha in the near term given the fact that the downstream naphtha cracker has yet to commence commercial operation.
As reported earlier, petrochemical units at the site, including PP and PE plants are in mid of trial run and sources close to the company commented that these plants might only reach full operation rate once the naphtha cracker achieves stable run rate.
Overview:
PrefChem is a 50%-50% joint venture between Petronas and Saudi Aramco. The complex houses a 3 million tons/year naphtha cracker, 900,000 tons/year PP unit, 400,000 tons/year HDPE unit. The company also owns a C6-based metallocene PE plant with a capacity of 350,000 tons/year.
