Market sources reported that Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company (Petro Rabigh) unexpectedly shutdown its plant on 19 May 2016, due to power failure. No other detail was disclosed at the time this report is published. It is unclear on how long the plant would remain offline, however, industry estimates that the company might need 10 days to resume production.

The plant consist of a cracker that producer 1.3 million tons/year of ethylene, 900,000 tons/year of propylene, 300,000 tons/year of HDPE, 600,000 tons/year of LLDPE and 700,000 tons/year of PP,
