As reported during late January 2020, the Chinese government has set out three phases plan implement in five years to abandon the use of single-use, non-biodegradable plastics products in major cities across the country.
The Hainan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment spearhead the progress by announcing its first batch of non-biodegradable plastic products that would be banned from manufacturing, distributing, selling, and using in the Province starting 1 December 2020.
The first ban applies to plastic bags and tableware that contain polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
It has been made clear that the authority plans to expand the list of the plastics items prohibited by the law.
