Malaysia extends lockdown period; more manufacturers received permission to operate

The Malaysian government has announced the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to 12 May 2020 as the country continues to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The possibility of further extension after 12 May has not been ruled out, however, would the situation improves over time, the government might ease the restriction accordingly.

Meanwhile, more manufacturers in the plastics industry are receiving approval from the local authorities to restart operations with a condition that only 50% of the workforce is allowed on the premises at a time.

“This is good news for the market, however, we remain very cautious as end-product demand is weak given the start of the Ramadan season. Many of our customers are still on the waiting list, yet to receive approval from the government,” a local trader said.
