Malaysia further eases COVID-19 lockdown to reduce impact on the economy

The Malaysian government has announced a conditional easing on the COVID-19 movement control order in the country by allowing more economic sectors to resume operations starting 4 May 2020.

The Prime Minister announced that since the lockdown took place on 18 March 2020, the country incurred RM63 billion in losses. If the lockdown persists for another one month, the figure would jump to RM100 billion.

The easing, however, does not include businesses involving crowds such as cinemas, night clubs, entertainment centers, bazaars, and exhibitions.

Meanwhile, manufacturers that have already received permission to operate are now allowed to run at full production rates.
