India proposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese PET resins

The Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry has submitted a recommendation to the Finance Ministry to impose a provisional anti-dumping duty (ADD) on import PET resins from China.

The suggested provisional ADD ranges from USD15.54 – 200.66/ton depending on the manufacturer and would remain in force for six months from the implementation date.

A major local producer – Reliance Industries filed an application claiming injury resulting from the alleged dumping, which prompted the country to initiate the investigation on 1 October 2019.

The recommendation is under review and the market is waiting for the Finance Ministry to make a decision.

In the meantime, Madras Hardtools Pvt Ltd submitted that there is no injury being caused to the domestic producer and the company claimed that “RIL material is always in demand and not easily available. Their terms and prices are not capable of being affordable for small manufacturers therefore, the injury claimed by the complainant is simply a bullying tactic to monopolize the PET market.”
