After two deadly blasts ripped through the chemical warehouses in the highly-populated city of Tianjin in August 2015, claimed 160 life; the authorities are now ordering Tianjin Chemical Plant and Tianjin Dagu Chemical Plant to relocate to a different industrial zone, some 30 kilometers away from the explosion site.
The two chemical plants are currently based in Hangu and Tanggu district of Tianjin, which is less than one kilometers from the nearest residential area, deem to pose serious safety and environmental risks to the neigbourhood.
Relocating of these plants might cost 29 billion Yuan ($4.5 billion). These companies are expected to acquire funds from low-interest loans and supportive funds provided by the management of Tianjin’s Binhai New Area industrial zone.
Tianjin Chemical Plant has already shutdown since end of last year, while Tianjin Dagu Chemical Plant will be shut by 2017.
