Saudi’s Sadara shut crackers and downstream PE plants on technical issues

According to market players, Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara) has declared an emergency shutdown at its naphtha cracker in Jubail, Saudi Arabia last weekend due to an issue at the compressor.

The cracker has an annual output of 1.5 million tons/year of ethylene and 400,000 tons/year of propylene is expected to remain offline for a month.

As a result, the company has also taken the downstream PE plants offline until the cracker comes back online. The PE plant consists of a 340,000 tons/year of LDPE line and a 600,000 tons/year HDPE/LLDPE swing line.
