Malaysia: E & E exports might retain double-digits growth throughout 2021

The Malaysian exports of electrical and electronic products (E & E) registered a strong growth rate of 13.1% in January and 24.4% in February 2021 thanks to the resilient global demand. The country’s Ministry of International Trader and Industry (MITI) expected the trend to persist in the remaining months of the year.

Malaysia is the house of major semiconductor and LED producers, that mainly supply to customers in China, Singapore, the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The country is targeting the strong demand from the information technology infrastructure, smartphone, and cloud computing to stimulate export growth.

The global market has been facing supply shortages of semiconductor chips in recent months that forced several car manufacturers to suspend operations. Many companies in the home appliance sector have also lowered run rates due to the chips supply issues.
