Mexico's Braskem-Idesa started LDPE production



According to market sources, Braskem Idesa Etilino XXI Project, a joint venture between Braskem S. A. (75%) and Grupo Idesa S. A. (25%) has started the production for third PE line (LDPE) over last weekend after delay due to technical issues.

Based in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, the complex is able to process 66,000 barrels/day of ethane, 750,000 ton/year of HDPE and 300,000 ton/year of LDPE. The first PE line (HDPE) began operations on 6 April 2016, following by the second (HDPE) line on 28 April 2016 which begin with the HDPE injection grade and then blow molding grade. The initial plan for the startup of third line (LDPE) was on 15 May 2016.

 With the start up of Braksem Idesa, Mexico is expected to reduce import PE by as much as 70%.
