According to local media reports, the Vietnamese government has announced Circular no. 16 to put its largest city, also the current hotspot – Ho Chi Minh city under lockdown as the number of COVID-19 infection cases rose sharply over the past week.
The lockdown takes effect from 9 July 2021 for two weeks, that restrict movement inter-and intra- city, all non-essential businesses are to shut; limit social gathering of no more than two people, and all public transports (for passengers) are to suspend.
Vietnam’s daily infection cases top 1,000 for three straight days on 7 July 2021, most of those are in Ho Chi Minh city.
Trading sentiment immediately weakens as buyers await clearer directions from the authorities pertaining to the operability of the manufacturing sector.
