Media: Vietnam’s Cat Lai port stops receiving certain parcels due to congestion

According to local media reports, Ho Chi Minh city port of Cat Lai has announced that it would temporarily stop receiving inbound shipments from companies that have suspended operations due to the COVID-19 related lockdown until 16 August 2021.

The decision is a result of intensifying yard congestion at the port after the manufacturing sector across the Southern Vietnam region reduced or suspended operations due to the lockdown, which coupled with the reduced number of personnel working at the port, exacerbating the pile-up of the containers.

The port authorities have urged shipping lines to enter the Cat Lai terminal only to pick up export containers. Meanwhile, it encourages customers to divert the en-routing or cargoes in waiting to other port terminals.

Also starting 5 August 2021, Cat Lai port would also stop accepting oversized and excessively heavy goods and refrigerated cargo until further notice.
