US-origin LLDPE film Breached Below $800/ton in Vietnam

After a subdued start to the week, a major international trading house lowered import offers for US-origin LLDPE film to Vietnam toward the weekend, pushing prices below the $800/ton threshold. The move reinforced market expectations that renewed US–China trade tensions could prompt international suppliers to adopt a more aggressive pricing stance in Southeast Asia to secure deals ahead of year-end financial closures.

Negotiations were still underway at the time of reporting, with most buying ideas clustered in the mid-$700s/ton range. Should transactions be concluded at these levels, downward pressure on other overseas suppliers is expected to intensify notably in the coming days.

Asian Naphtha Extends Decline on Softer Demand, Improved Supply

The Asian naphtha market continued its downward correction for a third consecutive week, weighed by easing supply constraints and muted demand from both the petrochemical and gasoline blending sectors. The latest CommoPlast data showed prices falling by around $50/ton from the late-September peak, with market participants eyeing the possibility of a return to April’s lows.

Sentiment was further dampened by a bearish outlook in the upstream crude oil market. Both the Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have projected a growing supply surplus into 2026, pressuring international crude benchmarks and adding to the weakness in naphtha values.
