According to market sources, Shell is unlikely to restart its naphtha cracker based in Bukom Island this first quarter, as the corrosion under insulation (CIU) problem seems serious.

The plant unexpectedly shutdown at the beginning of Dec 2015 and market has expected the outage to last at least six months.

The cracker is able to produce 960,000 tons/year of ethylene, 540,000 tons/year of propylene.
