The number of transactions for homo-PP on the Shenhua auction platform inched slightly lower than the previous session even though the producer agreed to additional discounts on deals. While the percentage of deals is relatively satisfactory, this is the second day in a row purchasing activities have declined. On the other hand, Chinese buyers quickly scoop up all HDPE quantity available while reluctant to off-take LLDPE – a development has also been observed in the spot market.
Background:
Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical Co is currently the largest coal-based polyolefins producer in China, operating under four subsidiaries, namely: Shenhua Xinjiang Coal-based New Materials Project, Shenhua Yulin Energy Co Ltd, Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical Co Ltd and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group (Ningmei).
The company has an annual capacity of 2.65 million tons/year of PP, 750,000 tons/year of HDPE/LLDPE and 570,000 tons/year of LDPE.
