Fire broke out at Malaysia’s Pengerang Integrated Complex

According to an official statement posted on its website, Malaysia’s PETRONAS confirmed a fire and explosion that took place at one of the interconnecting pipes at the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), Johor. It took the in-house response team slightly more than an hour to extinguish the fire.

There was no casualty reported.

Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) houses the Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem), which has just started to offer on-spec PP and PE cargoes after more than two years of shutdown. 

According to sources close to the producer, the incident did not immediately impact the operations at PrefChem. The 1.2 million tons/year ethylene cracker and downstream PP and PE units continue to operate normally at the time of this report.
