It is reported that major carbide based PVC producers in China have implemented another $10-15/ton hike on their export cargoes this week claiming high calcium carbide costs and healthy local demand as the support. The overall price range currently stand at $790-795/ton FOB China, LC AS term.

A maker from Inner Mongolia commented, “Our overseas customers have yet to give feedback on the latest prices as many prefer to wait for fresh offers from a Taiwanese major. Meanwhile, we continue to achieve satisfactory sales in domestic market, hence we plan to hold firm on our export cargoes.”

Market sources added that the government has implemented very strict environmental control on calcium carbide plants, causing a surge in production costs. Carbide based PVC producers have been attempting to transfer the costs to higher PVC (A) price recently; however, sellers are looking at a challenging time ahead in maintaining profit margins once peak seasonal demand fade.
