According to media reports, the Malaysian government would imposed ban on use of polystyrene containers and plastics bag across the Selangor state starting Jan 2017.

The Green Technology and Environment committee chairman, Elizabeth Wong said that the current RM0.2 charged to buy a plastic bag on Saturdays as part of the No Plastic Bag Day campaign will be extended to every day of the week. To keep the ball rolling, official events and buildings of the Selangor state government would stop using plastic bags and PS by next month (Sept. 2016).

A trader in the country commented, “The lunch box industry and T-shirt bags industry would be badly affected. However, we think the prospect for trash bag would remain bright. We are monitoring further development in order to adjust our trading activities.”
