Local PP, PE market in Malaysia galloped higher on strong upstream costs.
It is reported that availability for HDPE and PP from the producer is limited due to the lower operating rates stemming from compressed profit margins.
Strong upstream costs coupled with the strengthening US dollar once again steer the uptrend in the local Malaysian PP and PE market. A key local producer here reportedly announced October offers with additional hikes, marking the third consecutive month of firming trend.

It is reported that availability for HDPE and PP from the producer is limited due to the lower operating rates stemming from compressed profit margins.
“Some of the grades are limited, and therefore customers are likely to accept the latest hikes. Meanwhile, other regular grades might face resistance. Demand in Malaysia is not strong,” a market source commented.
According to Malaysian buyers, supply for LLDPE film is rather comfortable in line with the startup at PrefChem. However, the upcoming maintenance shutdown at the cracker might impact the availability of both PP and PE in the local market.
