In response to the attack on Maersk Hangzhou on 30 December 2023, Danish shipping giant - Maersk announced a temporary suspension of all transits through the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden until further notice. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of seafarers and cargo, comes as an investigation into the incident is underway.

The decision came just days after the company announced the resumption of the Red Sea route after the US-led international naval vowed to protect shipping vessels.

The shipping company acknowledges the challenges posed by this situation and expresses gratitude for customers' patience during these uncertain times. While the investigation progresses, all cargo movement through the affected area will remain on hold as Maersk evaluates the evolving circumstances.

"For cases where rerouting is deemed suitable, vessels will be redirected to continue their journey around the Cape of Good Hope. Customers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest developments through Maersk's diversion and contingency plans page," stated a spokesperson from Maersk.

Maersk remains dedicated to minimizing the impact on customers' supply chains and emphasizes that the safety of seafarers and cargo aboard their vessels is the top priority.
