Inner Mongolia Yihua Chemical Industry Co has declared an emergency shutdown at its carbide-based PVC plant in Inner Mongolia, China following an equipment failure on 29 January 2024, according to market sources.

The company suffered from a crack in the explosion-proof plate at the sulfuric acid main pipes, leading to an acetylene gas leakage. No injuries or casualties are reported.

The carbide-based PVC unit has an annual production output of 300,000 tons/year. At the time of this report, no exact restart schedule is revealed, however, industry experts do not expect a lengthy shutdown claiming the damages can be repaired within a week.

“The impact on the PVC market may be minimal since players are already winding down their run rate for the Lunar New Year holiday,” a buyer commented.
