Saudi Ethylene and Polyethylene Co (SEPC) has reportedly selected Lummus Technology for its ethylene cracker expansion project in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, according to market sources.

The contract, announced on 11 January 2024, involves the design and supply of two Short Residence Time (SRT) pyrolysis cracking heaters, which is expected to boost the olefins outputs from the existing cracker by 18%. These cutting-edge heaters would also enhance operational reliability, improve energy efficiency, and minimize emissions at the site.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the first half of 2026.

At the moment, SEPC owns a cracker at the Al-Jubail petrochemical complex that has a nameplate capacity of 1 million tons/year of ethylene and 285,000 tons of propylene. Downstream units include a HDPE line and a LDPE line, each having a capacity of 400,000 tons/year.

SEPC is a joint venture between Tasnee Sahara Olefins Co. (75%) and Basell Moyen Orient Investments SAS (25%).
