In an official statement to its customers, Qatofin Company Limited declared force majeure on LLDPE shipments following a technical issue at the cracker that disrupted ethylene supply to the 500,000 tons/year unit.
According to the statement, Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC) was forced to shut down the 1.3 million tons/year ethylene cracker on 30 March 2024 due to a tripping that stemmed from the high vibration of the CGC turbine.
Ras Laffan Olefins Company (RLOC) is a joint venture between Q-Chem II and Qatofin. The ethylene output from the cracker is delivered up to 700,000 tons/year to Q-Chem II and 600,000 tons/year to Qatofin.
The force majeure event is expected to last 28 days with an estimated restart date on 26 April 2024.
