Addressing shareholders at Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) 47th Annual General Meeting on 29 August 2024, Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled plans to build new polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) plants at the company’s existing sites in Dahej and Nagothane.

These facilities, with a combined production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, are slated to start commercial production in the financial year 2026–2027. However, key details, such as investment amounts and construction timelines, were notably absent from the announcement.

As India’s largest petrochemical producer, Reliance currently operates a 750,000 tons/year PVC plant, representing approximately half of the nation’s total PVC outputs. With India consuming an estimated 3.7 million tons of PVC in 2023, around half of which was supplied by imports, the new plants are positioned as a strategic move to bolster domestic production and reduce import dependency.
