Sixteen retail chains across Malaysia, comprising nearly 8,000 outlets nationwide, have pledged to stop providing single-use plastic bags to customers starting October 1. This move is part of the "Say No to Single-Use Plastics" campaign, launched by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to combat plastic pollution.

The campaign, spearheaded by Minister Nga Kor Ming, aligns with Malaysia's broader goal of eliminating single-use plastics by 2030. Shoppers are encouraged to adopt reusable bags as a sustainable alternative to reduce plastic waste. The initiative is projected to cut approximately 200 million single-use plastic bags annually.

Prominent retail chains participating in the campaign include 7-Eleven, 99 Speed Mart, AEON Big, AEON, Econsave, Giant, Cold Storage, Mercato, Guardian, KK Mart, Lotus, Lulu, Mydin, TF-Value Mart, The Store, Watsons, emart24, and NSK Trade City. Major shopping centres, such as 1 Utama, are also on board.
