The US’s LyondellBasell has announced plans to expand propylene production at its Channelview Complex near Houston, with construction slated to begin in Q3 2025 and startup targeted for late 2028. The new unit will add approximately 400,000 tons of annual propylene capacity.

The expansion is aimed at strengthening the company’s feedstock security and improving supply reliability for downstream operations. By increasing self-sufficiency, LyondellBasell expects to mitigate supply chain disruptions and support growing demand across key industries.

The new unit will feature an olefins conversion component, capable of converting ethylene into propylene. The resulting propylene will serve as a key feedstock for PP and propylene oxide, which downstream production lines can further process into medical, household, automotive and other applications.
