Import LLDPE film to Vietnam surges above the $1200/ton mark

After a brief week falling import LLDPE film prices end of September to early October 2016 due to improved supply condition, this week, most international suppliers have announced November delivery offers to Vietnam at above $1200/ton benchmark. Prices below this level have technically disappeared from market, especially for regular origins.

A buyer informed, “All of the offers we received this week for Middle Eastern and Far Eastern origins stand in the range $1200-1240/ton CIF Vietnam, LC AS term. We were placing bid for Saudi Arabia’s LLDPE film at $1180/ton with the same term, but very likely the supplier might hold firm on their prices given firming international trend.”

Many players are still having doubt over the sustainability of this trend claiming that LLDPE film prices increased mostly due to the spillover effect from surging LDPE film market. In term of supply and demand dynamics, there is little disturbance. Another buyer added, “We believed that suppliers would not commit to large discount since Chinese buyers have already accepted similar levels. We still have previous cargoes arriving, hence we decided not to proceed with purchases because prices are a little high.”
